Gay Marriage, Black President

In 1953, the gay publication, One Magazine was just about the only place you would find even a mention of same-sex marriage. The U.S. Post Office seized the August issue that year because they objected to the obscene words “Homosexual Marriage” on the cover. The Post Office later released the issue. Today, same-sex couples applied for marriage licenses in Washington D.C.

The idea of a Black President made it to the cover of Negro Digest in October of 1964, though only as fiction. The issue carried an excerpt of Irving Wallace’s novel, The Man.

Same-sex marriage, an African American President, maybe some day we'll have health-care reform!
